A military exercise or war game is the technique of using military resources in training or performing drills of military operations, testing the quickness and real-time capabilities of warfare and adopting strategies without undergoing actual combat. Indian Armed forces participate in many Military exercises across the world. The main purpose of these Military exercises is to enhance cooperation in the field of Defense and to test the performance of the Armed forces. The military exercises can also be classified on the basis of a branch of the Armed forces such as Army exercise, Naval Exercise, and Air force exercise. The military exercises of India are primarily of three types:
- Bilateral: When only two countries participate in a Military exercise, it is called a bilateral military exercise.
- Multilateral: When multiple nations participate in a Military exercise, it is known as a multilateral military exercise.
- Domestic: The military exercise conducted inter-services or intra-services of the armed forces is called Domestic military exercises.

Why Military Exercises of India are Conducted-
- Defense exercises are conducted as it serves many purposes like counter-terrorism, low-intensity conflict operations at Counter-Insurgency etc.
- Military Exercise is a measure to test the abilities of armed forces without engaging in the Combat.
- It helps Armed Forces to train themselves for Humanitarian Relief in case of Natural Calamity or Disaster.
- Military Exercise also helps in improving the cooperation and coordination among fellow participants for any Joint Military Operation.
